Shani Aharon

Escape

She stared into the night
With clear green eyes
At a single sight
From which she despises

Is this what she lives for?
The night in which she’s set free
She hoped for so much more
But they don’t want to let her be

Thoughts captured her mind
Of a life better lived
Yet she had stayed behind
For they wished she thrived

She would never cross them
Fear kept her there
She was once their gem
But now she didn’t care

One night she will do it
They won’t know
Her mind will submit
She’ll finally be able to go

Minutes went by
Yet she continued to stare
This wasn’t the night she’d try
Her heart filled with despair.
